Best Practice Report | General Counsel

What are the leadership behaviors that  make General Counsels be seen as more effective.

Our current research of General Counsel reveals 14 behaviors as good predictors of overall leadership effectiveness. This number of behaviors is uncharacteristically large in our best practice research and may indicate that chief counsel positions vary widely across organizations and industries. Similar to other best practice research, thinking about the longer-term implications of decisions and effectively articulating ideas and expectations are strong predictors of effectiveness. Interestingly, placing less emphasis on taking action and initiative versus more emphasis, which is more commonly found, is also a predictor of effectiveness.
